Jelto Kromwijk Smits

Since 2009 Jelto is Partner at Prime Ventures, a pan-European Venture Capital company headquartered in Amsterdam, with branch offices in Eindhoven and Cambridge, UK (www.primeventures.com). Prime Ventures is a leading venture capital and growth equity firm focusing on investing in European companies in the technology and related industries. We leverage our capital, experience and network to actively guide our ventures into global category leaders.

Jelto led the Prime investments in Silicon Hive and Liquavista (Netherlands), which were both exited in 2011 to Intel and Samsung, respectively. Presently Jelto represents Prime on the board of IPDiA (France), an active investment in the micro-nano technology domain.

Before, Jelto initiated the Philips Incubator at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, creating a multitude of technology-based ventures, of which several have since spun out from Philips as independent start-ups.

Until 2001, Jelto was manager of the Philips Strategy group in Amsterdam, in which capacity he contributed to the strategic turnaround of Philips as well as to a number of high-profile M&A projects. Before he was engaged in industrial and scientific R&D.

Jelto obtained a PhD in Physics from the University of Groningen, Netherlands, complemented by executive business education at IMD, MCE and Harvard.
